Saturday June 16, 2012, was a day that Ryan and Manda Winters* will never forget: They got baptized. And their entire family got to be a part of it! (*name changed for privacy)
The Winters hail from Kansas, where Ryan will be a junior and Manda a sophomore in high school. They both love Kanakuk and were so excited to spend this week together at K-Seven. But the Winter kids aren't the only ones who enjoy Kamp; their father has also worked as a doctor at K-West. And today, the whole Winter family experienced a special Kamp moment as Ryan and Manda were baptized by K-Seven director Keith Chancey in Table Rock Lake. Their parents, older sister Cynthia, her husband Brandon and baby Matthew, as well as Ryan's best friend (also named Ryan) watched from the shore, snapping pictures, cheering them on... and later smothering them with hugs. It was truly a special moment. When asked about their children's getting baptized, Dr. and Mrs. Winter exclaimed that they were "so proud." And their smiles definitely concurred!
After the hugging and photo-taking died down, I asked Ryan what has kept him coming back to Kamp for the last ten years. He said, "Oh, that's easy! Every year is a new experience. The older I get, the more I learn! It's awesome!" Manda, a five-year Kamper, readily agreed, "I learn something new every year. It never gets old. Kamp is a great way to have a lot of fun while learning about God at the same time. I love it!"
Manda and Ryan, your K-Seven family loves you and can't wait to see you--and all the Winters--again next summer!
