Isn’t it hard to believe that in just a few days we’ll be entering a new decade?
Imagine this: you’re at a theme park with friends, preparing to step aboard your favorite roller coaster. It’s the one that begins with stomach-wrenching drop and races through multiple flips, twists and turns. In those few moments (maybe even seconds!) on the ride, your entire being is surrendered to where the coaster takes you. You give up control and enjoy the freedom of flying through the air, following the coaster’s set path.
Now imagine your life. Does it remind you of a roller coaster? Are you fully surrendered to where Jesus is directing you as you head towards the next twist or turn in the road?
With the school year in full swing, it can be challenging, and even overwhelming, to think about what the Lord has planned for your life in the months and years ahead. You may be debating what courses to take next semester or juggling what sport to play in the spring. Maybe your future hangs in the balance of which colleges you will apply to and eventually attend. While all of these things are very real challenges we must face, we can find peace in knowing that Jesus wants to bear that burden with us! He wants us to surrender to Him; to fully trust that His plans for our life are perfect and good.
God knows best. As much as we can feel in control and confident in our ability to ensure an outcome, we are truly at the mercy of the Lord’s will for our lives. This is good news! There is no situation before us that Jesus has not already conquered. Our life’s plan is one that God has carefully narrated with our best interest in mind.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
Freedom follows surrender. The freedom that the Lord desires for your life is greater than any challenge you may face. He wants to carry the weight of your worries. He desires your prayers for release from the burdens that fall heavy on your heart. His death on the cross allows us to live without the worry of what tomorrow holds! Hand over your cares and allow the freedom of Jesus to wash over you.
Surrendering is a choice we must continue to make. His mercies are new each morning, and so are our opportunities to choose to lean on Him. Along the way, there will be doors that close that we wish had opened. At times, it may be hard to understand, even confusing as to why God lets things happen. But rest assured—we are not called understand but to trust. A door closed is a sign that an even better opportunity is waiting for us around the corner.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
The old saying is true––life is a roller coaster ride. Our ability to relinquish control and surrender to the Lord’s will for our life is a direct correlation to the freedom in which we are able to live. A great deal of peace and understanding can be found in Christ when we cast our burdens on Him and live in the victory that has already been won. Today, we encourage you to trust and live in freedom only found in Jesus!
