Intentional gratitude is always top-of-mind this time of year, with Thanksgiving quickly approaching. With the hustle and bustle of life, it’s often easy to forget that expressing gratitude applies to all seasons of our lives. As believers, we are called to be grateful in all situations and to live with the joy of the Lord.
When thinking about times of the year that are filled with happiness, it’s no surprise that summertime is at the top of the list. Between exciting summer vacations, days filled with sunshine and blue skies, and rest from school responsibilities, it makes sense that joy is found in the months between May and August. Oh, and let’s not forget one of the most joyful parts of summertime: a trip to Kamp!
There are countless activities at Kamp that inspire joy in our lives. Spending time with your Kamp besties, jumping from the blob into the refreshing water, growing in your relationship with Jesus, and eating coffee cake – just to name a few!
While we’re at Kamp experiencing unending joy during the summertime, may we never forget that joy is actually a gift from the Lord! It’s one of the fruits of the spirit that God freely gives us, simply because He loves us. We know this is true because of Galatians 5:22-23:
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Romans 15:13 also discusses joy as a great gift from above:
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus has the sovereign power to fill us with true joy! Through the Holy Spirit, we receive joy that cannot be found in any earthly things – even the best batch of coffee cake you can imagine.
As summer draws to a close, we encourage our Kampers to reflect on the joy experienced at Kamp and give thanks to the One who provided it. Appreciating the joy that comes from above allows us to embrace the I’m Third lifestyle and to live with our hearts IGNITED for Christ.
Kamp is a place where kids can just be kids and experience pure JOY! So, why do kids NEED summer camp? Learn more from Kanakuk President Joe White, as he explains why Kanakuk is a place of joy, laughter and endless smiles.
